Since I was thirteen, Dad and I have always taken an autumn hike around my birthday, in one of the many states I've lived in at the time... This year I actually made it home for our tradition!
We headed out on October 10 to Letchworth State Park in the Genessee River Valley. The dam above was unusually exposed this year because of a long, dry summer.

- fortunately I was with an engineer and had all the benefits of such great company to appreciate the details of such excellent construction.
Natural engineering phenomena!
Grand and gorgeous......
.....or minute and delicate.
Hemlocks over a quiet bend in the Genesse River at the Lower Falls...
The amazing vistas the leave me convinced that Upstate New York is one of my favorite places on earth!
All the better with a little autumn thunderstorm drama!

Dad named me his SideKick when I was five. It's still a great position!
More breathtaking beauty!
Home birthdays are the best!
